Nepal Earthquake Appeals
On Saturday 25 April, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.  The next day a 6.7 magnitude aftershock caused further damage and casualties. Over 2,200 people have been reported dead, and many thousand injured. Yesterday's earthquake was the worst tremor to hit Nepal in 80 years.
We are aware of, and support the following appeals.

RAWCS Project 52-2008-09

To fund reconstruction of community facilities after the recent earth quake. To upgrade Dharapani Lower Secondary School which provides services for a number of the surrounding Villages, drawing students from Bhairabi and the two other schools.

Sponsored by Wahroonga Rotary Club, the Dharapani Lower Secondary School, Gorkha District, Nepal project is located is Gorkha District which is very close to the epicentre of the earthquake, in the remote Hills about 60 Km northwest of Kathmandu. As you can imagine, those working on the project are very anxious regarding the safety of the people in the communities where the club has worked for the past eight years and knows so well.  While it seems inevitable that there will have been casualties, the club is hoping for the best, especially for the schoolchildren.  It is unlikely that any first aid, at least by western standards, will be available for the injured in the hill villages.
