On Monday 10th of August 2015, we celebrated the culmination of a very successful Writing Competition with the presentation of awards.  The evening took place at the Australian /brewery & Hotel Atrium room. This year’s Writing Competition was extremely well supported by our local schools, with five schools submitting their top three entries, to our competition.

The topic for this year’s event was “That reminds me of the time, when…..” a subject that inspired many different themes and divergent, writing styles. Judging of the 15 Finalists’ submissions was conducted by Past President Gordon, President Ray Campbell and Mrs. Robyn Scoble. An extremely difficult task as the standard was consistently very high and given the variety in creative styles.

The following schools attended the Presentation night:
  • Australian International Academy (Kellyville Campus)
  • Jasper Road Public School
  • Rouse Hill Anglican College
  • St. Michael’s Catholic Primary School, and
  • Sherwood Ridge Public School
The three finalists from each school received a $20 Book voucher and a Finalists Merit Certificate.

87 people attended the Presentation Night including Principals and Teachers from five Primary schools, 15 of the Year 6 Finalists, members of their families and Club members. We were again privileged with the attendance of Mayor of The Hills Shire, Andrew Jeffries, Member for Seven Hills, Mark Taylor MP. ADG Jan Duffy and Youth Chair Bruce de Graaf, represented District 9685.

The top three student awards went to: 1st – Jacqueline Feldman (Jasper Road Public); 2nd – Azad Kaya (Australian International Academy) and 3rd – Vinson Cai (Sherwood Ridge Public). Highly Commended certificates were awarded to Imogen Cheal (Rouse Hill Anglican College) and Callum Alvaro (St. Michael’s Catholic Primary).
