TO CELEBRATE WORLD POLIO DAY – OCTOBER 24!

World Polio Day is some five weeks away and now is the time for your club to plan something special within your community to highlight the END OF POLIO …

We can hear the ‘moans and groans’ now … Rotarians will tell you they are ‘weary’ of organizing special events.

However, this does NOT have to be a BIG event, and certainly not a lavish, black tie event!

What about adding ‘something special’ at your normal club meeting?
  • Invite the local Mayor, Member of Parliament, local media.
  • Perhaps members of the local medical fraternity?
  • Urge you members to bring a colleague from their work place.
  • Locate some elderly polio victims and invite them along to tell their story.
  • Present one of these special guests with PHF recognition – and take a photograph, write a BRIEF story for the local press if a representative of the media cannot attend.
Just a couple of days ago, Governor Gina Growden issued a press release supporting the concept of the ‘World’s Greatest Meal’.

This also a very simple project and fits very well with the above suggestions.  It’s not meant to be a big fund raiser but it would be most appropriate to encourage your members to donate a gold coin in addition to normal club costs. Perhaps the proceeds of the Sergeant’s Session at the meeting?

A small minimum donation of $10 is required to honour the event but many clubs have raised more.

Go to the website – www.wgmeal.com – for complete information.

After the dinner, go back to the web site and click on the ‘After Event’ table to supply a brief report – and upload a suitable photograph from the dinner.

Remember, none of the above suggestions are compulsory.  Do your own thing in your own club, but, be sure to have FUN and connect with your community to promote the END OF POLIO!
