Presentation Night
On Monday 11th of August The Rotary Club of The Hills-Kellyville celebrated the culmination of a very successful Writing Competition with the presentation of awards, in the Function Room of The Castle Hill Tavern. This year’s Writing Competition was extremely well supported by our local schools, with eight schools submitting three finalists each, to our competition.

The topic for this year’s narrative was “I looked out of the window and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw…..” a subject that inspired many different themes and divergent, writing styles. Judging of the 23 Finalists’ submissions was conducted by Past President Gordon and Mrs. Robyn Scoble. Judging was again an extremely difficult task as the standard was consistently very high and a variety of creative writing styles was used by the finalists.

110 people attended the Presentation Night including Principals and Teachers from eight Primary schools, 23 of the Year 6 Finalists, members of their families and Club members. We were again privileged with the attendance of District Governor Ian Scott, Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr. Michelle Byrne, Members of Parliament, David Elliott (Baulkham Hills) and Ray Williams (Hawkesbury).

All finalists received a $20 book voucher (donated by Five Senses Education) and a certificate to recognise their excellence.

Winner of the Student Award was Hannah Waterhouse (Kellyville Ridge Public) who was awarded the annual trophy, $200. Second place went to Therese Barbara (St. Michaels Catholic Primary) who received $75. Kelsey Jenkins-Dare (Kellyville Ridge Public) won third place and received $50. Highly Commended certificates were awarded to Alyssa Macleod (William Clarke College) and Blake Allen (Rouse Hill Anglican College). These five place getters all received a certificate and a book, donated by Scholastic Publications.

All eight participating schools also received a parcel of books for their libraries.

The Patrons of this Writing Competition Graeme and Edna Rohan inspired this literacy program in 2005, to commemorate the Centenary of Rotary International.
Kellyville Ridge Public School were declared winner of the 10th annual School award and were presented the Perpetual Trophy and $500. Rouse Hill Anglican College (2nd) received a certificate and $200 and St. Michael’s Catholic Primary School (3rd) received a certificate and $110.

All who attended have expressed their enjoyment of a delightful evening.
