Rotary International strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in Rotary activities. To the best of their ability, Rotarians, Rotarians’ spouses and partners, and other volunteers must safeguard the children and young people they come into contact with and protect them from physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.

The District 9685 Youth Protection Policy sets out the roles and responsibilities of District leaders, Rotarians and other volunteers in relation to preventing and reporting abuse and harassment of young people participating in Rotary programs. The policy meets the requirements of Rotary International as well as federal and state legislation.

Each club, as an individual registered incorporated association, is required to establish and maintain a Youth Protection Policy and have a Youth Protection Officer. A sample policy is available to be adapted to each club's individual needs. Please ensure your Club's Youth Protection Officer is listed in ClubRunner.

Per the Club Constitution & By-Laws update issued in 2025, all Rotarians are required to hold a verified Working With Children Check.
